The year in 1916 and the uprising in Russia against Czar Nicholas the second, is becoming stronger. Czar Nicholas sends a colonel to suppress the uprising against him. David, an innkepper, is pious Jew dedicated to keeping Shabbos in the most stringent manner. One Friday night, his inn was visited by the colonel of the Czar. Not wanting to desecrate the Shabbos, David refused to sell the colonel some wine. The colonel, angered by David???s refusal, begins to seek revenge. A drunkard shows up one day to the angered colonel and institutes a libel, saying that David assists the Bolsheviks in their uprising. David is arrested and brought to trial.
